TASTE productions began life as
an after school Drama club, with Valerie Goodwin, a Drama teacher
since 1983, as the producer/director.
When looking for plays for the group to perform Valerie found a
distinct shortage of scripts that fulfilled the exact requirements
of the 'school play'.
-
lots of decent sized
parts, instead of just one or two main ones and the rest chorus
-
parts for all ages, but mainly
for under 18
-
minimal set, or one permanent set
with some props and imaginative additions e.g trucks/revolves
-
songs and dance opportunities,
plus physical theatre
-
adaptations of the classics that
remain faithful to the originals
-
Lively and fun pieces that
stretch the performers
The first play Valerie wrote was
an adaptation of Frankenstein, which was a set text for the English
department and warmly reviewed.
In 2002 'The Magdalen Whitewash' was written and published on the
web, where it was found by various acting groups around the world,
and has been performed in Dublin and Michigan as well as England.
In 2004 it was off to Edinburgh fringe to perform 'Love Marilyn',
and subsequent years have seen TASTE productions performing at
Buxton.
